Job Title: Sr. Manager, Traceability, Tapestry

  • Research, assess and implement industry best practices and regulatory traceability and certification requirements
  • Implement process to map and analyze Tapestry’s global raw material supply chain
  • Develop a clear traceability strategy and work with internal partners to recommend and implement process or systems that best suit the organization and meet global traceability requirements

The Manager, Product Sustainability will lead Tapestry’s projects and operations to increase adoption of environmental preferred and new innovative materials across our product offering and throughout our supply chain. The role will support Tapestry’s efforts around circularity, helping Tapestry brands to create products that design out waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use, and that regenerate natural systems.

 

The successful individual will leverage their proficiency in Product and Material Sustainability to…

  • Partner with key business units/leaders to develop strategy, set targets and adopt environmentally preferred raw materials
  • Partner with legal to manage the voluntary environmental marketing claims substantiation process across all brands with a focus on clear and substantiated claims
  • Educate internal teams (design, merch., supply chain, materials, etc.) on sustainability claims verification and marketing, providing data and analytics on claims, as needed

You are an analytic environmentalist with great understanding of sustainability issues within the fashion industry and how these can be addressed and managed on a corporate level. You will work mainly with the different product & design departments but also cross-departmental with supply-chain and the commercial department.

Tasks will include, but are not limited to
  • Manage performance and progress of strategies on climate, chemicals, production processes and packaging  
  • Follow developments on scientific research, legislation, certifications, innovations and trends for the designated focus areas 
  • Gather, consolidate and analyze emission data from suppliers and other sources for the annual climate report 
  • Identify and propose concrete measures to reduce climate impact on scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions  
  • Develop sourcing criteria’s and oversee seasonal targets on sustainable processing techniques on water, energy and chemical usage

Textile Exchange is looking for a dynamic, strategic, and ambitious leader to lead the next phase of Textile Exchange Standards. The Senior Manager of Standards will report to the Director of Standards and will be responsible for supporting the management of the team and maintaining corresponding budgets. The role will manage Textile Exchange Standards across three key areas:

Delivering Impact

Our Climate+ commitment must come to life in Textile Exchange standards. Guided by our in-house team of experts and supported by our Assurance team, the Sr Manager of Standards will make sure that our standards drive impact in line with climate action. They will help Textile Exchange capture the data and stories behind the impact. They will ensure that impact drives decision-making at the highest level around our standards.

Stakeholder-led Development

The Sr Manager will work with our highly organized and efficient (and internationally recognized) stakeholder engagement team to ensure our standards are developed with true collaboration, science- based decision-making, and transparency. They will look for innovations to continue to bring new stakeholders into the process, while also supporting innovation in systems to make the process more efficient and transparent.

Telling the Story

The Sr Manager will work with our Communications, Business Development, and Claims leads to drive more interest and trust in what our standards can deliver for the industry and consumers: creating real impact. They will drive more and more trust in what our standards can deliver, and increase the adoption of standards across the industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

85% Standards Oversight, Management of the Standards Team

  • Help Textile Exchange reach its goals via its suite of standards

  • Primary lead for Standards revisions

  • Support the Director of Standards in reporting to the Board and SAT on Standards work

  • Support the Director in oversight of workplans and key deliverables

  • Support the Director in managing the annual budget across all existing standards

15% Standards Innovation and Outreach

  • Horizon scanning to ensure standards can adapt as the industry innovates and grows on the development and implementation of a business development plan.

  • Identify technology or innovations in approach for the Standards team.

The Standards Specialist will report to the Director of Standards and will support the Textile Exchange standards development team. The Specialist will bring experience in technical writing and standards development to help the team create credible, dynamic standards that drive meaningful impact and climate action.

  • Liaise with content leads, subject matter experts, and Assurance team to research key issue areas
  • Draft issue papers, criteria, and standards documents according to best practices and desired outcomes

25% Standards Support and Guidance

Duties and Responsibilities

You will be someone who will thrive in and contribute to Textile Exchange through your shared belief in our purpose and values.   • Part of a team developing and successfully delivering the Corporate Fiber & Materials Benchmark (CFMB) program, including the Material Change Index, Insights Report, and Materials Impact Dashboard.

  • Supporting the strategic review and future-fitting of the CFMB program to industry needs, including the future framework and next steps for the biodiversity benchmark (currently in beta form).

  • Stakeholder consultation and building alignment with important benchmarking/reporting programs and you will be leading on building strong relationships, partnerships and collaborations with key stakeholders.

  • Spearheading opportunities to better resource and strengthen the CFMB program, including business development opportunities, and funding proposals.

Experience and Qualifications

The Fiber Crops Technical Program Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day running of land-based fiber crop pilot, liaising with farm groups and seeking to capture impact and lessons learnt as well as managing internal relationships across Textile Exchange.

Reports to: Director of Standards

Duties and Responsibilities

1) Managing the Fiber Crop Pilots

  • Champion the Fiber Crop Program and pilots specifically, ensuring there are processes and systems in place to set expectations, capture data and draw out lessons learnt. More specifically,
    • Scoping:
      • Design overall pilot outcomes and impact (what information we are collecting and who we are targeting)
      • Design draft farm-level criteria and indicators for pilot in line with Climate+ goals and other industry recognized targets and indicators (e.g. Delta framework, SDGs, etc.)
      • Design model for linking producers to Impact Incentives and/or chain of custody.
    • Piloting: Identify potential pilots (e.g. producers part of an existing program interested in partnering or a producer that is not yet engaged with a program) and conduct pilots with producers in target commodities.
    • Reporting: Reporting the results of the pilots and draft practice requirements to share lessons learnt.
    • Partnering: Work with our Impact Incentives team to ensure lessons are shared and applied.
  • Manage the datasets of information that feed the Fiber Crop Program, working to align with Textile Exchange’s data strategy and in conjunction with the Data Center. Lead on data collection, in consultation with farmers and producer groups, and on normalizing other datasets to create a Fiber Crop Program suite of data.
  • Lead on the development of the Fiber Crop Program methodology, drafting additional criteria as needed, and liaising with farms, producer groups, and/or fiber programs to sense check improvements.
  • Design and draft benchmark and verification models by mapping out existing programs and initiatives according to scope and goals and identify levels along the pathway to intended good or best practices.
  • Work with the Director of Standards to inform the strategic direction of the Fiber Crop Program within the larger Textile Exchange Strategy and Textile Sector.

2) Ensuring alignment across Textile Exchange programs

  • Ensure continual alignment with and develop synergies between Textile Exchange corporate strategy, Climate +, the Data Center, Textile Exchange roundtables, Corporate Fiber and Materials Benchmark (CFMB), etc.
  • Ensure strategic alignment between the Fiber Crop Program and Textile Exchange standards and Impact Incentives.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience working with cotton farm groups globally. Experience with broader land-based fiber crops is preferred.
  • Experience with or understanding of crop protection, water, soil, biodiversity, regenerative practices, GHG emission reduction, and economic factors.

We are looking for a Product Chemical and Sustainability Officer to join our team within the Product Legislation and Sustainable Development team at Next.

Overview:

This is a fantastic opportunity to join us as an experienced assistant, where you will work alongside the Product Legislation and Sustainable Development Manager for chemicals, textiles, leather and animal derived products to ensure NEXT meets all its environmental and responsible sourcing goals, including:

  • Compliance with all UK, European and global legislation in relation to restricted substances & chemicals
  • Transitioning to using the most responsible and traceable raw materials
  • Managing the climate related risks associated with the products we sell

We are looking for someone who is inquisitive, confident and enjoys having multiple tasks running in tandem with varying timelines and levels of complexity.  Some basic (but not necessarily expert) chemical knowledge is needed and experience of ZDHC and working within a similar sustainability role is beneficial, but not essential.  You will also have excellent people skills and the ability to collate and interpret data as well as a real interest in product, fashion and environmental issues.

Specific Responsibilities of the Product Chemical and Sustainability Officer

ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) Programme

  • Support line manager to expand and implement the NEXT Textiles ZDHC programme to include leather tanneries, synthetic leather manufacturers and footwear suppliers
  • Liaise internally with NEXT technology teams and externally with wet processors across the NEXT supply chain to support ZDHC implementation

Responsible Sourcing Strategy

  • Support the internal product teams and external supply chain to implement the sourcing requirements of the Responsible Sourcing Strategy across all required product categories with particular focus on animal derived textile fibres, leather and footwear
  • Support internal product teams with labelling and product claims relating to the NEXT Responsible Sourcing Strategy, including product monitoring to ensure claims are legal and correctly verified to support reporting to targets
  • Support internal product teams and external suppliers to trace supply chains from raw material to finished products and maintain the NEXT Supplier database for tracking and tracing Next fabric suppliers, printers, dye houses, leather tanneries, laundries, chemical suppliers and fibre manufacturers
  • Update/create NEXT manuals and sourcing policies where required
  • Research and track NGO (non-governmental organisation) activity on climate risks, animal derived fibres and materials and restricted substances (Greenpeace, Changing Markets Foundation, Four Paws, WWF, CDP – Water Security etc.)

Restricted Substances and Chemical Compliance

  • Ensure the business is compliant with all new and changes to existing UK and EU chemical legislation for all Next products including UK and EU REACH legislation, specifically in relation to imported Cosmetics, Bodycare, Fragrances, Candles and Home Fragrance products 
  • Follow the legislation process for any emerging or existing restricted substances in order to support the department in writing technical updates, and training any changes to the Technology teams internally and also externally within the supply base
  • Update NEXT Technical Manuals with changes to chemical legislation and support implementation with training where required
  • Conduct quarterly ‘Bill of Materials’’ roll ups of tonnages of chemicals imported in NEXT Cosmetics, Bodycare, Fragrances, Candles and Home Fragrance products and help with the REACH registration process for all relevant chemicals

Skills & Experience:

Essential Criteria:

  • Study or training in textile technology, leather or footwear technology or environmental management/sciences or sustainability to a minimum of degree level (or equivalent experience), including knowledge of the textile and/or leather and/or footwear industries, chemicals and the environmental impacts of the fashion industry
  • Ability to research and disseminate information on a diverse range of raw materials found in NEXT products
  • Highly IT literate – excellent written and numeracy skills, good excel/google sheets skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy skills
  • Ability to perform a range of tasks at any one time and work to strict deadlines

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is well versed in environmental impact data, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and impact reduction modelling to join Textile Exchange as Manager, Climate+ Impact Data. You will work with both internal and external stakeholders to advise on impact data and climate science and how to apply it to agricultural and textile systems, supporting them in making ambitious progress towards the 2030 strategy.   • Build impact reduction considerations and data into and across Textile Exchange’s vertical platforms and tools (Industry Accountability, Fiber & Materials, and Integrity Interventions.)
  • Develop and execute plan to identify and address the industry’s key impact data gaps for materials, in partnership with relevant organizations or platforms.
  • Lead the data and analysis behind regular Climate+ progress reporting.
  • Provide impact measurement and comparative LCA support to the organization as needed, including in support of the Preferred Fiber and Materials Matrix.

  • Ensure that you stay up to date on climate science, the data landscape, and industry best practices around impact accounting and measurement protocols, help to connect/embed best practices into Textile Exchange’s programs, and translate and share findings with the broader membership and industry.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of direct experience in Life Cycle Assessment: proficiency and demonstrated expertise in conducting and analyzing LCA’s and communicating results/findings. Professional LCA practitioner certification preferred. Experience with at least one of the following software platforms required: Ecoinvent / WALDB, GaBi from PE International, Open LCA, Simapro from PRé
  • Subject matter expert, with strong technical knowledge of climate change, and experience at a strategic level of climate modelling, carbon reporting and different frameworks
  • Experience working in the apparel industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with Scope 3 (value chain) emissions accounting preferred
  • Adept at communicating information clearly and concisely to both specialist and non-specialist end users
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and to conduct appropriately focused and communicated research

Intro

Textile Exchange is looking for a Website Coordinator to join our Communications team. The Website Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, updating, editing, and publishing content on TextileExchange.org. The current website is under a major rebuild and will go live by July 2021. This role will work with internal teams and manage their website updates or new page build requests. The Logistics Coordinator is to oversee and have a mastery of the finished goods cycle, vendor and customs compliance, and warehouse management.  This role also oversees commercial customer service.  Coordination with the Finance, Sales, Ecommerce and Production Departments is essential for success in this position.  

Responsibilities/Requirements: 

To ensure that all merchandise is in the warehouse on time, and that all orders are allocated and shipped before the cancel date.  Shipping out partial orders and opening shipping windows early for department stores and majors when possible is highly desirable and advantageous for success.  The process is considered “finished” upon submission of ASNs (when required) and transmission of invoices to wholesale customers.  This role will also assist with the flow of ecommerce orders and returns.

Intro

The Program Specialist will report to and support the South Asia Manager to implement the intervention activities of Textile Exchange within the region & globally. Specifically, activities related to Textile Exchange impact & production data collection, standards assurance, and outreach and policy activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Preferred Fiber and Material Team Support: 

  • Production data collection & record keeping.
  • M&E & Impact data collection for Organic & other Preferred fiber & Material.
  • Regional Organic Cotton Round Table support.
  • Global Organic Cotton Round Table support.
  • Project Management, including development and implementation.
  • Stakeholder management & engagement.
  • Coordinating and delivering meetings, workshops, and other events.
  • Learning & Communications.
  • Contributes to the strategic direction of current & new programs.

Assurance duties:

  • Establish and maintain relationship with certification stakeholders in the region. This includes frequent communication with certification bodies providing both guidance and enforcement of assurance policies. It may also include engaging with certified sites for data gathering or piloting new standards requirements.
  • Perform quality checks of certification activities such as document reviews, shadow assessments, investigations, complaints resolutions, etc., all following the assurance team protocols.
  • Provide general support for the assurance team in implementation of standards, impact incentives, and other programs.

Administrative duties:

  • Meeting scheduling, note taking, email, document editing and other communication support
  • Technical research on textiles and their materials.
  • Report writing & proof reading.

Experience and Qualifications

Core Competencies:

  • Passionate about sustainability.
  • Demonstrate interest in Textile Exchange’s vision, mission, and goals.
  • Strong knowledge/understanding of raw material production and/or textile production.
  • Strong understanding of Monitoring & Evaluation and data collection.
  • Takes ownership of responsibilities.
  • Self-motivated & well organized.
  • Clear communicator in English, both oral & written.
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Eager to learn.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation with the ability to work remotely effectively.
  • Strong team player.

 

Required:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience.
  • Working and thinking at master’s degree level, preferably in business, agricultural economics, sustainable development or another relevant field of expertise.
  • Experience in project management and operations.
  • Proven ability to establish strong relationships and build rapport with stakeholders and clients.
  • Knowledge and thinking on agri-value chain, textile supply chain development and understanding of international trade and critical sustainability challenges in (agricultural) value chains.
  • Experience in research, writing papers/ proposals.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate respectfully and effectively with non-native English speakers.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proven analytical skills; strong understanding of technology, process, problem-solver.
  • Able to handle a fast-paced environment and tight deadlines & ability to operate in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Team player, resourceful, eager to learn and able to work independently in a virtual workplace.
  • Able to work remotely/from home in India.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office Suite.
  • Flexible to communicate with multiple time zones outside of standard working hours.
  • Able to travel domestically & Internationally – up to 35%.

 

Preferred:

  • Prior experience coordinating events and/or performing trainings is a plus.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Equipped with excellent computer skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft. Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Strong second languages (Hindi, Marathi, Tamil preferred)

Employment Package

Full Time Position, 40 Hours a Week

Location: Virtual/Remote, Based in India

Annual Salary Range: Dependent upon experience
